ACCC Academic Excellence Awards 2025
Background
We, as a community organisation with a long history of contributing to our members and with a connection to the Auckland Chinese population, understand the importance of our young members continuing this work of our organisation.
The ACCC Academic Excellence Awards (‘awards’) are established to recognise and reward secondary school students, who are ACCC members and have achieved a high standard in their chosen field of studies. The awards will also give some weight to achievements and activities outside the classroom, such as sports and community interests.
The Awards
The following awards are available to secondary students completing studies in the following years:
Year 11: Up to Ten awards at $200 each with ACCC award certificate
Year 12: Up to Ten awards at $500 each with ACCC award certificate
Year 13: Up to Five awards at $1500 each with ACCC award certificate
Eligibility and Selection
- Applicants must have been members of the ACCC for at least two years (enduring, family or individual membership).
- Applicants must provide evidence of both academic achievement and community involvement / service / membership. Academic achievements can be Excellence Endorsement for NCEA or NCEA equivalent provided by a school or equivalent Cambridge or Baccalaureate courses of study. Community involvement can be within the Chinese or wider community. Evidence should include copies of academic transcripts, NZQA results, letters of recommendation and other outputs. It is helpful and meaningful, especially for Year 13 applicants, to provide full details in the Achievement sections rather than a bare list.
Application
Application for these awards shall be made on the ACCC Academic Excellence Award 2025 application form and must be submitted before 31 March 2025.
All applications with supporting papers should be emailed to the ACCC awards sub-committee, Vernon Choy: accc.comms@gmail.com
Selection
A selection subcommittee of the ACCC Executive Committee will assess all applications based only on the applications provided but applicants may be asked for further information or clarification. Decisions made by this panel on the successful applicants will be final.
Applicants will be advised of the outcome of their applications before 1 May 2025 and be invited to attend the ACCC Anniversary dinner in June 2025 to receive their Awards. Details for this event to obtain tickets will be announced when available.

Background

These awards replace the scholarships that were set up in 2018 for members pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate university studies.
The Awards
The following awards are available to secondary students completing studies in the following years:
- Year 11: Up to Ten awards at $200 each with ACCC award certificate
- Year 12: Up to Ten awards at $500 each with ACCC award certificate
- Year 13: Up to Five awards at $1500 each with ACCC award certificate

Moon Festival Yamcha
2023 ACCC member Moon Festival Yamcha at Cypress, Saturday, September 16 Life member trophies were given to Kai Luey, Virginia Chong, Merry Tsao, Connie and John Kum, Geoffrey Lim, and Cecil Wong by the chairman of the ACCC, David Tai.
There were more than 300 members for the Moon Festival Yamcha celebration.

The General Election Forum
The General Election Political Forum was held at ACCC Mengere Hall yesterday. The four major parties’ leaders attended; Carmel Sepuloni, Christopher Luxon, David Seymour, and James Shaw delivered speeches. Each party had the chance to state their policies and answer questions. There were more than 300 people from Chinese, Korean, and Japanese communities, and candidates and supporters from each party participated. This event attracted media attention, including TV33, online media, and social media influencers.
The refreshment was provided by the ACCC hospitality team.

ACCC Chinese School has had a long history in Auckland, providing Chinese lessons to both children and adults to learn about the language and culture.
Enrolment:
The Children’s classes will recommence on 30th April, the Adult’s Cantonese class on 3rd May and the Adult’s Mandarin class on Sunday 30th April.

2022 China National Day celebration
ACCC hosted the 2022 China National Day celebration at Mangere Hall, there are over 300 people attended this event. The minister of Ethnic Affairs Priyanca Radhakrishnan, the Chinese ambassador Wang Xiaolong, the Race Relations Commissioner Meng Foon and Kai Luey delivered speeches.

To celebrate the Moon Festival, ACCC hosted its member’s Yamcha lunchtime today at Cypress Restaurant, there are 260 ACCC members joined this annual event.

ACCC Table Tennis Finished Succefully
On 6 August, the 2022 ACCC Cup Table Tennis Team Tournament came to a victorious conclusion. For Group A, Group B, and Group C at various levels, a total of 26 teams and more than 80 players were in the competition.
This tournament accurately represents Auckland’s general level of table tennis. The youngest and oldest players are 12 and 75 years old, respectively. The participants are drawn from a variety of ethnic groups, including Chinese, Korean, Thai, and mainstream communities. The national champion under the age of 13, and there is also a former New Zealand national team player who participated in the Seoul Olympics.

2022 ACCC Cup Table Tennis
Numerous communities, particularly the Chinese ones, responded favourably to the 2022 ACCC Cup Table Tennis Team Competition. In only two weeks, all of the player registrations were filled. At the competition on August 6 at 99a Gillies Ave, the Table Tennis Stadium, 80 players will be present.
This event is one of the biggest Chinese sports events in recent years. Organizing this event shows that ACCC is the leading community to take care of its people for all kinds of activities.
The Foundation of Minority, Mr. Steven Wong, and Asiaworks Ltd. are other sponsors of this event.
We appreciate the support and cooperation of the Chinese media, especially TV28 in covering the event.

ACCC Cup Double Badminton Tournament
2022 ACCC Cup Double Badminton tournament was successfully held at ACCC Mangere Hall on 19 March Saturday. There are 25 teams in the competition. The tournament sets men’s, women’s, and mixed double champion ships.
